Nigeria ICT Youth Summit, Job Fair and Expo 2016: A Life-Changing Event!

The first alarm rang at 5:30am. Ohhhh, is it dawn already? I snoozed the alarm 6 times and sluggishly got up at the 7th. Eight hours later i was glad i made it to the indoor sports hall of the National Stadium, Lagos where young professionals, industry leaders and Students gathered for the Nigeria ICT Youth Summit, Job Fair and expo 2016.
The Nigeria ICT Youth Summit, Job Fair and expo happened yesterday 24th March and saw an impressive turn out despite late social media publicity.  The event was powered by Technology Africa and convened by Don Pedro Aganbi an International award wining journalist, actor and producer and anchored by Biyi Fashoyin, CMO of Chips Bits and Bytes Limited.

Themed “The Internet of Things”; the event was full of excitement as 2 participants won full scholarships to get ICT training at New Horizons Computer Learning Centre, 2 participants won at an idea’s contest which will see their ideas implemented with grants up to $5,000 and the rest of the participants got an exclusive invite to a Google powered learning initiative coming soon. CVs where submitted with an assurance by the convener that recruitment proper will begin in a week’s time.

The climax of the event was an inspiring talk by Juliet Ehimuan, Google’s country Manager for Nigeria and one of Forbes’ 20 Youngest Power African Women. Using inspiring videos, she spoke about the internet of things, how the internet can help power of our dreams and highlighted the 5 C’s of the internet which are; Completeness, Competition, Collaboration, Communication and Creativity

It wasn’t all talk and inspiration as there was entertaining show of talents by several performers like Don Leo, Turning point (a dance crew) and many others. The program ended with question and answer sessions with representatives from New Horizons Computer Learning Centre who gave ALL participants an automatic 30% discount on all ICT courses.
Overall, it was a life changing event and i have begun tweaking my idea in preparation to win the ideas contest in next year’s edition.
