Recruitment Fraud In Nigeria: Protect Yourself!

In Nigeria, every problem provides opportunities not just for solution providers, but fraudsters too. Housing/real estate, international travel, imports, and tertiary institution admissions problems create opportunities for fraudulent “agents”, and sadly unemployment is not excluded. Many desperate and gullible job-seekers have been duped via job placement promises and bogus recruitment drives.

Chapter 12 of My Book- The Job Seekers’ Creed- focused on recruitment fraud. Here is an excerpt from the book.

High unemployment has created a big business in Nigeria. The acute lack of jobs has created avenues for fraudulent people to take advantage of unsuspecting job seekers by offering them none existent jobs and demanding payment for job placements. These individuals camouflage as employment agencies and private recruiters. They post bogus job adverts and offer fake/ludicrous employments all in a bid to get into your wallet.”

Recruitment fraud is a serious problem and you as a job seeker need to take preventive steps to protect yourself. Yesterday, - Nigeria's Top Job & Career Site- mailed me apologizing for the fraudulent activities of unscrupulous “fake” recruiters on their platform. Read and excerpt of their email.

Recently, we noticed some fake recruiters/companies slipped through are security check and listed some jobs on our site. This has caused many of you a lot of stress and loss. We are extremely sorry for failing in our duty to provide a secure platform and to protect you.

The Co-Founder, Andy Eze in the email encouraged job seekers to report any suspicious company/recruiter through this page ( and proceeded to list 24 Fake/Scam Companies they had uncovered and made an assurance to do more to protect genuine users of the jobsite.

See the full list of these Fake/Scam Companies here: and

Dear Job Seeker, it is your duty to protect yourself.
